As a diabetic trying to be healthy, I can not eat all the things I want to eat. I also can not drink all the things I want to either, namely my old best friend, mister beer. Most diabetics have a strict diet they stick to in order to avoid having our eyes fall out and legs chopped off, among other things. So you get the point, diet is super key in our lives as diabetics trying to be healthy.
We cannot indulge like we want to, and it takes some serious will power to survive in this non diabetic world of caffeine, nicotine, sugar pastries, soda, and lethargy. So when we find something we can eat that tastes really good…it can become a full on obsession…. pretty quick. I see you diabetics laughing and nodding. It’s true, I know.
Enter Blue Diamond “Bold” Wasabi and Soy Sauce Almonds. I accidentally bought a small bag of these a few months ago when I thought I was buying the plain almonds in a similar looking green bag. Imagine the look on my face when I put the first one in my mouth……Wow! Not plain almonds, not plain at all.
These little guys are spicy, salty, crunchy, and satisfying! They are by far my favorite snack. So here are the vitals for all you diabetics: (this is from a 6oz can purchased at Walgreens)
serving size 28 nuts or so
total fat 15g
cholest- 0 (no animal products=no cholesterol)
sodium-115mg
potassium-180mg
carbs-6g
dietary fiber- 3g
Protein- 6g
so total carbs are 6g subtract 3g of fiber so only 3 carbs per 28 nuts!
I usually munch these as my post breakfast pre lunch snack. I have a small crispy apple as a chaser (15 carbs).
Just wanted to spread the word on these things, they rule!
They do have some sodium so don’t go nuts (I can’t believe I just did that)
So munch em up, here’s to your diabetic health!
