So you have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes? Well you have just joined a very big and growing club. The majority of us in this club were overweight, or just plain old unlucky. There is still no definitive reason why some people develop type 2 and some never do. This is a topic in itself. For now, though, let me just say welcome to the club, There are some cool people in this club.

The bad news is that everything you used to do that led you here ends right now. If you choose to make this change, you should never look back, and your life will improve starting right now. If you choose to cling to the old ways that led you here, you are not only stubborn, but you have a death wish and want to put your loved ones through hell. So which path will you take?

I chose path A, the smart one. That is why I am healthy today with more energy than I have ever had. I would not change my decision for any amount of money. Let me be totally straight with you though, most of you will be lazy and choose not to listen to my advice. The statistics are with me here. Most of you are too stubborn and lazy to change your ways. To you I say goodbye, you will be dead in a few years, hope it was worth it.

To the rest of you who want to make this positive life changing decision, welcome to my website, my name is Johnny Hofmann, and I have type 2 diabetes. Now let’s get to work.

<—————–For starters, you should join my list over there on the left. You get a free diabetic cookbook with over 500 recipes just for joining. I will help you put your life back together piece by piece, starting right now.
Browse some of these informative articles and get familiar with the site. I am about to make a significant structural change and add a ton of new content here, so enjoy this phase of the website while it lasts.

Here is a little nugget that I wish someone would have told me, I am passing it on to you……

Very few people, including doctors, know what you are going through. Do not expect to be comforted by doctors, or anyone else that does not have diabetes. You will only get comfort by seeing someone personally living a healthy life with diabetes. Join a forum or two, and start “meeting” people and sharing your frustrations, fears, and feelings. I felt so much better when I met someone who had this disease and was kicking it’s ass.

You will have to do some adjusting if you have been surprised to find out that you are a diabetic. You may have to change your lifestyle and your diet and this may include getting to grips with a diabetic diet chart. This documentation is quite important and will usually be provided by the dietician or your doctor. The diabetic diet chart provides instructions about what should be eaten and what should not be eaten. This information will need to be considered straight away because it will determine our healthy eating habits for the future.

It is quite normal to feel a little bit intimidated when seeing a diabetic diet chart for the first time. It is full of do’s and don’ts and we may feel a part of our mind rebelling. If you are not accustomed to putting limits on your diet then these new instructions can come as a shock. And the fact that you think all the enjoyment is going to be gone from your food can leave you feeling more than a bit depressed. Once you get used to this kind of diet you will find that there is still plenty of enjoyment to be had from your food.

Failure to stick to your diabetic diet chart can lead to all sorts of problems so it is important that you learn to do get to grips with it quickly. You will likely find though that as you become more aware of the foods that are going into your body the more enjoyment is to be found in meals. The fact that so many people just eat absolutely anything is probably the main reason why they develop diabetes in the first place. But by following a diabetic diet, you can start to look at food in a new way and actually enjoy eating the right food.

Sufferers of diabetes today, irrespective of what type, are always on the lookout for information regarding diabetic diet sample. Today there are many diabetes resources available with info on a range of things such as diabetic diet. Don’t be left behind; a little online searching can reveal a goldmine of info, so get to it and you could be finding out things like diabetic diet chart.

You just got a diagnosis of Type ii diabetes. Does that mean you must never visit your favorite Mexican restaurant again? The answer is no. You can still enjoy Mexican food. You can actually enjoy just about any food you want. There is definitely one proviso though. You might know you must watch what you always eat and how much you eat. Mexican restaurants are known to serve foods which are high in carbohydrates. Always be aware of what you are eating. That basket of chips they bring to the table is the place to start using caution. The corn contained in the tortillas have high quantities of carbohydrates. The deep fried chips bring high levels of fat. Some salsas have a really high degree of salt or sodium.

What else does one need to watch when eating at a Mexican restaurant? Rice is not your friend. They make many of the rice dishes with highly refined white rice. Eating too much rice can spike glucose levels. Beans may be another red flag. Legumes are also a good sourcs for the healthy fats and fiber. Beans in a Mexican restaurant will likely send your glucose into the stratosphere. Refried beans have added fat and calories that is often saturated. The refrying breaks down the fiber value as well. You get the taste of beans but none of the nutritional value. Tortillas, from either corn or flour, are not good either. Both come from refined grains that hold little nutritional value and high levels of carbohydrates.

What can you eat at a Mexican restaurant? Chicken fajitas are a good choice. You get a pile of chicken with vegetables. You can moderate the level of sour cream and cheese you add as well as the tortillas you eat with it. Shrimp fajitas are also good options. Soft tacos with chicken or broiled fish are also another option. Ordering a taco salad and then not eating the deep fried shell is also another option. All of these options then allow you to control the portion of rice, tortillas, and beans you may eat.

Portion control is imperative with any restaurant. If you order an entrée, consider asking for a box at the beginning of the meal. Put half in the box and take it home with you. You can get to enjoy your food and don’t need to deal with a glucose spike in the process. Getting a diagnosis of the type 2 Diabetes doesn’t mean you have to stop eating your favorite foods. It is a question of getting control of portion size and regulating when you eat.

Why is Type II Diabetes known to be so dangerous? Many people are under the mistaken belief that Diabetes is not a serious condition. If left untreated, diabetes may result in many very serious complications. It will almost certainly lead to an early death for many if not treated and managed. Being aware of these physical complications is very paramount for individuals with Type II Diabetes and emphasizes the importance of managing your disease correctly. Here are some pointsto consider.

Type 2 diabetes comes with many complications that come up suddenly and can be life threatening. The first is a sudden decrease in your blood sugar levels. Hypoglycemia may occur when you take too much insulin or exercise too much. You may feel very lightheaded and can possibly faint. The second is a sharp spike in your blood glucose readings. Hyperglycemia may occur if you do not have enough insulin in your body to deal with glucose levels. In a severe case of hyperglycemia, you can develop something called ketoacidosis. This is when there is no insulin in the blood circulation to convert glucose. The cells turn to burning fatty acids for energy. A by-product of that process is ketones, which build up in the system. If enough of them gather, you may even be facing a diabetic coma.

Type 2 diabetes also comes with long-term complications that will cause health issues over the years. Excess glucose in the body does damage to cells in many different areas. When it does damage to the kidney, it can lead to renal failure through nephropathy. When it does damage to the nerves, it can lead to nerve death or neuropathy. Neuropathy leads to amputation of feet and legs in some patients. Restriction of blood in the eyes can lead to blindness in some people. You can avoid or delay all of these complications with proper management.

There are many other conditions associated with Type 2 Diabetes that can wreck your life and even kill you. Diabetics are twice as likely to develop cardiovascular disease as people without the disease are. They have problems with cholesterol, high blood pressure, and stroke. They may also have issues related to sexual function. Depression may be another common side effect. Any and all of these various medical complications can shorten your life and may even kill you. It is a reported fact with correct management and control of a Type two Diabetes sufferer’s blood sugar levels, they certainly have the opportunity to avoid or delay them for a long time. It is imperative to make the decent decisions early on to possibly hold off the big mess that can eventuate.

No set formula for eating will be able to keep your Diabetes Type 2 in check. Individuals must determine the best combination for their own health management. There are some particular rules that will help you make the right choices though. Your food choices must to be the healthy ones. Diabetes brings additional risk of heart disease, stroke, and other severe health issues. Making healthy food choice will benefit your diabetes as well as help avoid the other health issues. Eat a variety of foods as well. Do not think that a diet made mainly of protein will help you avoid glucose spikes. The main problem with that diet is that it can drop your blood sugar levels and bring on ketoacidosis.

Mix up what is on your plate at each meal or snack. Combine carbohydrates with the healthy fats and proteins. Make sure you also get raw fruits and vegetables as well. Eating fiber rich foods will indeed help regulate how fast your body absorbs glucose. Ensure you choose healthy plant-based fats over meat fats whenever possible. That will help keep cholesterol in check. Add whole grains to your diet as well. They absorb slower than their refined cousins absorb and they contain fiber.

How you eat is as important as what you eat. Set up a regular routine for meals and snacks spaced between about 3 and 5 hours apart. This will help keep your blood glucose levels steady. Don’t ever eat overly large meals. It is better to have several small meals instead of a couple large ones. Portion control of all types of food will also help keep glucose levels steady as well. It is not a good idea to skip meals. You might think it will help you lose weight. However, you will also face glucose problems instead. Getting into a pattern will help your body naturally regulate blood glucose levels. Getting out of pattern will then cause the opposite problem.

One very good habit to form is to read labels constantly. You will be surprised at the levels of empty calories you are consuming each day. If you find sugar, high fructose corn syrup, or anything that hints at sugar within the first few ingredients, avoid that food product. Look for the healthy ingredients near the top. Another good habit is constant hydration. Dehydration enhancesDiabetes 2 treatment and control. Drink water constantly throughout the day and avoid or limit sugary drinks. Caffeine actually dehydrates you even in coffee, tea, or soda form. All this will help you better control your Blood Sugar and Diabetes condition.

Dealing with Type 2 diabetes means you need to understand the underlying causes. With a healthy system, the body turns food into glucose and sends it to the body’s cells. The body’s cells use this glucose as energy. However, for the cells to convert the glucose, the pancreas releases insulin as required. The insulin directs itself to the cells and there it helps convert glucose into energy the cells require. That is how everything should work.

In those that have Type 2 diabetes, something is not working properly. The cells of the body begin needing more and more insulin to convert the same amount of blood sugar. This condition goes by the name of insulin resistance. For a short while, the pancreas increase production to keep up with the increased demand. However, at some point, the pancreas cannot keep up the pace. That is when the glucose levels begin to rise in the blood stream. After awhile, the body cannot deal with the elevated glucose levels.

Now, what causes the insulin resistance that leads to Type 2 diabetes? The most prevalent causes in society are obesity and lack of exercise. In fact, it is the reason for over 90% of new cases diagnosed every year. Recent research may have uncovered one reason why obese people have such a high prevalence of the disease. In studies with mice, researchers found a new hormone produced by fat cells. They have assigned this new hormone, resistin. In mice that were obese, the amount of resistin in the blood rose dramatically. In mice that were not, the amounts were far lower. Resistin possibly increases the body’s cells resistance to insulin. Why or how this happens is presently unknown. Research is ongoing at this point.

Genetics definitely play a role in Type 2 diabetes, however. The children of parents that have it are very likely to develop it themselves. With the right diet and exercise, most can avoid the consequences of the disease even if they have a genetic predisposition towards the disease. What are some of the other causes? Aging is yet another risk factor for developing the condition. Those over 45 have an increasing risk. Those over 65 years of age have a substantially higher probability of the condition. Other links to those developing this form of diabetes include a history of gestational Diabetes, polycystic ovary disease, or cardiovascular disease. Having knowledge is the first step to successfully managing and treating this disease.

There is really a strong connection between carbohydrates, high blood sugars and diabetes. Carbohydrates give your body the energy, or fuel, it wants to function correctly.

There are two kinds of carbohydrates; simple and complex. Easy carbohydrates are in foods such as fruit sugar, corn or grape sugar and table sugar. They’re single-sugar molecules. Complex carbohydrates are the foods that include three or extra linked sugars. So carbohydrates create blood sugars and that is exactly where the difficulties commence for diabetics. Understanding a lot more concerning the connection helps to control your diabetes…

A Private Experience

I’m a diabetic type 2 and, at the second, I control my blood sugars via tablets and diet plan. Blood glucose control is extremely essential for any diabetic – it is the only way of minimising future health complications; heart illness; neuropathy resulting in amputations; kidney illness and early death.

4 years ago my A1C sugar levels had been starting to obtain out of control – they weren’t massively high but were creeping up. My Physician elevated my medication – with no actual satisfactory outcomes, my blood sugars have been all over the place; I could go from a high reading at night and be woken by a hypoglaecemic (low blood sugar) inside the early hours.

Then I discovered the Atkins diet and, because I wanted to lose weight, I started to follow the low carbohydrate, high protein menus.

That is when I discovered the genuine connection between complicated carbohydrates, high blood sugars and my diabetes. Suddenly my blood sugars stabilised and it was due to the fact I was no longer piling in large quantities of carbohydrate, which had been pushing my blood sugars far too high.

This seemed to fly within the face of conventional assistance on the proper diets – complicated carbohydrate wealthy – for diabetes. You see, I already understood I had to prevent sweet, sugary food – these contained easy carbohydrates. I hadn’t realised that the more complicated carbohydrate of bread, potato and cereals affected my blood sugars also.

But (there’s often a ‘but’ isn’t there?) the Atkins diet didn’t really suit me. I had constant diarrhea which was stressful and debilitating. So I came off that diet following 3-4 months and, of course, my blood sugars started to get out of control once more.

But now I knew concerning the connection, all I necessary to do was discover the right program for me that followed the low carbohydrate principle.

And just lately, whilst carrying out analysis for my diabetes website, I discovered a program that suits me, and which I describe in a lot more detail on my web site for diabetics.

My advice to any diabetic and pre-diabetic, do your analysis! Understand the close connection between the complicated carbohydrates you eat, how they have an effect on your blood sugars and how it can make it difficult to control your diabetes. Once you understand that link, look for a diet plan or method that you simply can adapt to safely bring your blood sugars back under control.

Bear in mind, too several carbohydrates (complicated or simple) give you high blood sugar levels and if you have diabetes it suggests your physique can’t cope using the extra overload.

Research shows that adopting a Diabetes Diet in line with Mediterranean eating habits can help manage Diabetes Type 2 without taking pills. What exactly do they mean by a Mediterranean diet? This diet comes from the cultures that live around the Mediterranean Sea including Italian, Greek, and others. It contains a diet rich in vegetables and whole grains. Surprisingly it also has about 30% of calories coming from fat derived sources. The biggest source of fat though is olive oil. The diet also replaces most of the red meat consumption with fish and chicken. No more than 50% of daily calories can come from carbohydrates.

What is the result of adopting this diet on those with Type 2 Diabetes and their Diabetes Symptoms? Nothing is really a miracle. However many patients gain better control on this diet than with a low fat diet. They also show marked improvements in heart health. Weight loss usually happens as well. Studies have shown that this diet helps some hold off the need for medications. How does this diet do it? The diet focuses on replacing saturated fats with healthier versions. It additionally focuses on increasing the levels of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. All of this helps realign your health into a better mode.

Adopting a diet in the style of the Mediterranean eating habits bring many good things to the table of a person with type 2 diabetes. The diet focuses on eating more of fish and chicken rather than red meat. That will lower the amount of saturated fat in your diet. The diet also emphasizes meat as equal or subordinate to those plant-based foods. That means that chicken or fish is not the main part of the meal. It balances with good hearty sized portions of wholegrains and veggies. Many of the meals do not contain fish or chicken. The main source of fat in this diet comes from the use of olive oil in cooking.

The addition of fresh fruits and vegetables can raise the intake of healthy fiber. Fiber helps those with type 2 Diabetes in 2 ways. The first is that it helps regulate how fast the body absorbs food. This helps keep the blood glucose levels steady. The second benefit is that it helps with weight control and heart health. Those additional factors now mean that one is healthier all together. The best part of this diet is that it’s rich in many nutrients that benefit the health of everyone. It is a good diet for the entire family to adopt along with the diabetic.
